The Philosophy of Love (poem)

By Luke Labern

Poetry: the philosophy of love –
  With fluid promises it teases us,
It divides and contains like a glove
  Holds fingers – unbound yet united – thus
A form through which the paradoxes reign
  A place where I find solidarity
Where otherwise such chaos is called bane;
  Where otherwise too difficult to be.
In changing times where hands clutch less at pens
  And more at throats and electricity
Those universals: the whos, the whys and whens –
  A pure, philosophical clarity.
A draught of pretence or a fatalism
An aesthetic anaesthetic – truism.
