The Loved (poem)

By Luke Labern

Me: I’m just a reflection of you.
When beauty you seek, just move
Closer. My glittering eyes will prove
How sweet you are – I always knew
That one day full circle would arrive.
Not just war and confidence poems contrive.

Short, complex, a feather in the breeze,
You are to me as verse is to life --
A bundle of all, that is beautiful, rife --
And so soft and delicate: if I could please

You, I could write no longer:
A flawed human you see before you,
I bask in your timid perfection, it’s true
To say, that with you I’m always stronger.

Fair-weather friends will come and go,
Just like our negative emotions --
Please savour every word, so that commotions
Can’t ruin my affection. I want to sew

My bare and natural expressions,
Like pen’s ink across these papers,
I wish to spread kisses to you – our capers
I know, will one day end. But these confessions

I’ll never forget: puzzle pieces moulded
To precise agreement; your smile
Aids me through any threatening trial.
You are sublime: in human form folded.
