The Confident Two (poem)

By Luke Labern

Two veins that coil like twin vipers,
Without doubt in union, all the more dashing.
Hot blood pumps between them; hormone precision of snipers,
Aiming at their opposite inner selves; see the laser flashing?
Nothing to prove, a self-sufficient duo, unstoppable power.
I have to admit, it dominates my thoughts;
It's incredible. The balance of emotion... becomes sour,
If I can't be with her. I know the common retorts:
It's unoriginal to have a soul mate, known through
Terrible mistakes? That's not to say how strong
I can be, alone with my psyche. It's obvious you
Are the switch so simple in theory -- when in the throng
Of life becomes complex... We are born to survive,
That is, together. Alone? I'm powerfull, but in
What way? Powerful potential, which will arrive
Usually in the form of evil. You're my kin,
A receptive being. You are so much more
To so many more, than I could ever desire,
How I regret my decrepit actions, when sore
With stupidity's burns. Our love is quite simply a fire
Which recyles the world around us -- this is not rose-tinted --
I'll do every single thing you need, at which you hinted.
