Lyrical Sums (poem)

By Luke Labern

And you should know the writer's turn
Follows that of the act;
With existence, am I concerned.
Be this vacant or fact?

All I know is that many years
My crumbling spirit fought:
Thus the shivers and heavy tears
Seem to label me caught.

Was sobering silence enough?
Solitude cured anger
For patches: but ahead lie rough
Notes, that no singer sang.

Never threw a fist yet I choose
Battery to myself.
And have you heard the news?
An act the writer's wealth.

Recognition dawns and my mind --
Forever whirring hums.
To cease the noise would be most kind:
Constant lyrics sums.
