Finally (poem)
By Luke Labern
A whole lotta affection in seriesBut no doubt you still have some queries;
Get them outta you, there’s no time left
So before time passes and leaves us cleft
In two, ask your questions to the dead man:
My mind is aching like a red tan.
A new one grows in the shadow of old
In the future warm – though now I be cold.
Self worth fluctuates like a seismograph
I hope not as low as Sylvia Plath
It hurts when the great take their own lives
A sharp moment’s pause, metaphorical knives
Gone. There’s no coming back, so learn to cope,
Find a new subject to hold all your hope:
Stay behind them so they don’t lose your trust –
Don’t forget! Arguments are a must.
If only there sat a day in which no
Conflict occurred. It’s far-fetched, I know --
Stranger things have though. Never thought I’d say
“Goodbye” to some, and others, down the way.
But saying “hello” to you, most of all:
I’m running when I should probably crawl.
Don’t want to get injured, falling head first
Over heels in this opening burst.
It seems so musical; your melody
Breaks me from these iron prison thoughts free.
Perhaps no mind will relive my own
Thought trains – I admit, it’s an odd zone.
Wherever it goes, it constantly tricks
And concentrates on attaining the mix
With which determines the outcome’s fate –
Creation and adversity the bait.
I’m no fisherman -- I’m that man’s spear:
I reside in all and I love it here.
I’m the lingering you didn’t leave
Behind when you spent so much time to grieve.
Was it worth it, all the days laid to waste?
If it was, I suggest you try the taste
Of a drink that has sunk so many when
They sunk it – oh those foolish, foolish men.
It took their minds to another level
One embossed in gold with a rich bevel –
When they tried to leave, one foot had remained --
And to this day, those men are still pained.
From this, so much has been written and wrought;
I wonder if scars stuck from the battle fought.
With the growing relations still in store
He will be happiest, who wants yet more.
