Dichotomy (poem)

By Luke Labern

I need protection from impurity.
From dust of doubt which seeps through aplomb:
A truer version, no society;
Internal combustion, a thinking bomb.

A dualism, a contrast – we juxtapose
Like A to B, like black to white, like this
To that – a lie which we try to expose
Where consciousness, where sense, it goes amiss.

A deeper tunnel, path of unknown length:
Incomprehensible. Where no ego
Is egoism in its strongest strength
Where what’s above is the same as below.

How long it lasts is a matter of luck
And meditation philosophical.
An oily grip on the best things to pluck:
For me, the abstract is the topical.

For grey does not exist in my design;
Just back and white through which I opine.
