Amelioration (poem)

By Luke Labern

I

What's drive -- when you reach the destination?
What's passion -- when you've gained your consecration?
What's new -- when you've become an inspiration?
Who learns -- from a one man conversation?

II

What's lust -- at the end of consummation?
What's clear -- after yet more complication?
I'm sick -- of this configuration --
Who wins -- in the wake of desolation?

III

What pain -- in the sound of post-celebration
As silence -- rings true -- a poignant confirmation
That we -- are headed towards dislocation --
Our lives -- ephemeral exploration.

IV

Such questions -- lead to much misinterpretation
But I -- offer this delineation:
I strive -- for existential subjugation --
Life is but a chance -- at amelioration.
