2009 (sonnet)

Two thousand and nine years, what did you bring?
So much consumed, from love to substances,
Ethics, war, women; all things you did fling;
The roadside littered. How many dances
Did you share when the devil took your hand?
I remember crying eyes and hearts broken,
And none of the tragedy had I planned:
How many apologies have I spoken?
Events began in a painful manner,
Two lovers stretched beyond their years of life.
The start forshadowed the split, a banner
Showing cracks where problems were all too rife.
How do I begin to this year amend?
I embrace the next, and let this one end.
